Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur today said that BJP candidate from the Hamirpur constituency Ashish Sharma would again win the byelection by a big margin of votes.

Anurag said that the BJP alone could bring development in the state and Hamirpur district and Ashish Sharma’s victory would strengthen the BJP in the state as well as at the Centre. He added that the Congress government had failed on all fronts and “has no right to remain in power in the state”. He was accompanied by Ashish Sharma during a roadshow in the constituency on the concluding day of the election campaign.

The Hamirpur MP said that in its 18-month rule in the state, the Congress government had taken loans of over Rs 25,000 crore. He urged people to vote for the BJP candidate and ensure his victory by a big margin.

Earlier, state BJP spokesperson Randhir Sharma, while addressing mediapersons, alleged that the Congress government had amended the mining policy “to benefit the friends of senior party leaders”. He said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu should tell the people of the state why the mining policy was changed and whom it would benefit.

He alleged that the Chief Minister was misleading people on the mining mafia in the state while he himself had been protecting and promoting it. He added that the Chief Minister had benefited his brother by making changes in the mining policy.

Randhir Sharma alleged that Congress leaders were afraid of defeat in all three Assembly byelections in the state and hence were misusing the government machinery. He added that the Congress leaders were threatening every section of society, be it businessmen, employees or BJP workers.

He said that he had never seen such type of political drama during the byelections. He added that the byelections should be contested on facts and public issues. “The BJP raised questions on various issues but the ruling Congress did not reply to them. The Congress has no achievement to showcase, hence its leaders are maintaining silence on development and public issues,” he alleged.
