Agriculture Minister opens kisan fair at Kangra’s Jawali
In order to generate awareness about the latest farming techniques and provide information regarding farmers’ welfare schemes launched by the state government, the state Agriculture Department recently organised a kisan fair at Jawali in Kangra district.
Local MLA and Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar inaugurated the fair. Addressing farmers of the area, the minister said such fairs played an important role in sensitising farmers about new farm technologies being explored after research by the scientists of the agricultural sector.
The state government was committed to increasing the income of the farmers, and a number of new farmer welfare schemes had been launched in the state, he added.
He said the government was emphasising the strengthening of the agricultural sector to boost rural economy, and was working towards empowering the farming community by increasing the productivity and quality of cereal crops by implementing various development programmes related to agriculture.
The main objective of the fair was “Right to Food for a Better life and Future”, Kumar added. He visited the exhibitions set up by various government departments at the fair.
As many as 650 farmers, including fifty from Hamirpur and Chamba districts, participated the fair.
During the fair, agriculture experts replied to queries of farmers pertaining to farming, farm technology and farmers’ welfare schemes of the government.
Agriculture Department Deputy Director Rahul Katoch sensitised the farmers about the benefits of soil testing, measures to prevent diseases in cereal crops, usage of nano-fertiliser, crop insurance scheme, kisan credit card and other kisan welfare schemes of the department.
On this occasion, the minister honoured four farmers of the JICA project, 13 of the department, and seven progressive farmers of the ATAMA project.
