After Kurash c’ship, Nurpur school to organise wrestling competitions
After successfully organising the National Junior Kurash Championship on October 2-3, Vidyavati International School, Malkwal (Nurpur), is set to host two major wrestling events in November. The first is the state-level inter-college wrestling competition in early November, followed by the State Open Senior Wrestling Competition at the end of the month. Wrestlers from all districts are expected to participate.
Rakesh Pathania, managing director of the VVMB Group of Institutes and former minister, announced that following the success of the national event, the National Kurash Association had offered the school the opportunity to organise the South Asia Kurash Championship next year. To accommodate this, additional facilities will be added to the school’s indoor stadium.
Pathania also highlighted the achievements of the school’s athletes in the recent national Kurash Championship, including Aditi Dhiman, a ninth-grade student who won a bronze medal in the under-17 category, and Baibhav and Vikram Singh, who secured silver and bronze in the under-19 category. Pathania praised the students, noting that they had brought pride to the state.
While reflecting on the school’s sporting achievements, Pathania criticised the current state government for halting several development projects, including an indoor stadium and a shopping complex, which were initiated during his tenure as a minister in the previous government. He expressed disappointment that these projects had been sidelined since December 2022.
