After 10-day run, Ramleela ends at Kotli
The Ramleela festival held at the community hall in Kotli, Mandi district, concluded yesterday after a 10-day run.
Presiding over the closing ceremony, local MLA Anil Sharma expressed pride in the ongoing tradition, stating that many places had stopped such events in today’s “social media” era. He congratulated the organisers and wished them success in continuing the tradition in future, donating Rs 30,000 from his voluntary fund.
The ceremony began with a grand welcome for Sharma, featuring floral garlands and traditional drums.
Committee members — including president Prashant Mohan, general secretary Ashwini Kumar and treasurer Kamal Kishore — honoured the MLA with a shawl, cap and a memento.
Attendees included local panchayat representatives and social workers. The event was dedicated to the memory of former committee president Beeri Singh Palasra, with the MLA paying homage by garlanding his portrait and lighting the ceremonial lamp. Palasra’s wife Vimla Devi and son Yogesh Kumar were also present on the occasion, with the latter contributing Rs 5,100 to support the festival.
The performances culminated in a dramatic depiction of the fierce battle between Lord Ram and Ravana, ending with Ravana’s defeat, followed by the coronation of Ram. This year’s Sharadiya Navratras concluded the Ramleela festival on a successful note.
