Five policemen, including a DSP, accused of beating an informant and his wife at Nalagarh police station continue to evade arrest even nine months after an FIR was registered against them. The sixth accused, woman Head Constable Chanderkiran, was arrested on Sunday.

The Himachal High Court had rejected their anticipatory bail applications in August. A case was registered against them at Nalagarh police station on December 27, 2023, on the basis of a medical report and the orders of a Nalagarh court. They are accused of torturing the duo using the third degree method during remand as a result of which the young man suffered a serious injury in the ear. The case was later transferred to the CID.

The erring policemen, including Lakhbeer, who is posted as DSP (Leave Reserve) at Baddi, former SHO Kuldeep Sharma, Sub-Inspector Ashok Rana, constable Sunil and ASI Kalyan, are posted in various battalions. All of them are missing from duty and are evading arrest, confirmed police sources.

DIG (South Range) DK Chawdhary said that efforts were afoot to arrest the five policemen, including the DSP. The informant’s wife had made serious allegations on oath against these policemen. The status report submitted before the High Court had revealed that the policemen had deleted a 39-day-old CCTV camera footage pertaining to the case. The couple was facing the charges of cheating and forgery and for this reason the Nalagarh police had interrogated them.
