The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), Shimla, yesterday organised a one-day seminar on “Institutional Preparedness for the New Binary System of Accreditation” in a bid to enhance understanding of the new accreditation framework, and improve institutional quality.

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome from IQAC Director Dr Ramesh Thakur, who encouraged all NAAC coordinators to engage actively throughout the discussions. Vice-Chancellor SP Bansal was the chief guest at the event, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Rajendra Verma the guest of honour, and Dean of Studies BK Shivram the distinguished guest. In his inaugural address, Bansal emphasised the importance of internationalisation in education and urged the university faculty to participate in the QS World Rankings.

Bansal talked about the New Binary System of Accreditation and commended Dr Thakur for organising the seminar, stating that such initiatives were crucial in today’s educational landscape.

Shivram discussed the challenges faced by the university, particularly in data compilation and presentation.

He urged coordinators to enhance the quality and quantity of data, highlighting the significance of quality publications indexed by Scopus and Web of Science.

The seminar included detailed discussions in several technical sessions, where resource persons shared valuable insights on various metrics and criteria of NAAC, identifying areas for improvement for HPU.

They addressed numerous queries from participants, fostering an interactive environment.

Approximately 50 directors, chairpersons, and departmental NAAC coordinators from HPU, along with deputy directors and assistant directors of IQAC, participated in the seminar.
