95 posts sanctioned for Tanda medical college, high-end lab to be set up: Sukhu
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated the Trauma Centre Level-2 at Rajender Prasad Government Medical College (RPGMC) at Tanda in Kangra district. The centre has been established at a cost of Rs 10.27 crore.
Sukhu said that Rs 6 crore had been spent on the procurement of machinery and equipment for the centre, Rs 1.50 crore on construction work and Rs 2.77 crore for other allied services.
The Chief Minister said that 95 posts of various categories had been sanctioned for Tanda medical college, including the Trauma Centre, including of neurosurgeon (1), anaesthetist (3), orthopaedic surgeon (1), casualty medical officers (8), staff nurse (40), nursing attendant (16), OT technician (5), radiographer (4), lab technician (2) and multi-task workers (15).
Later, he presided over a meeting of health officers at Tanda medical college. He said at the meeting that the state government was enhancing the facilities in all medical colleges in the state in a phased manner. “The initiative aims to provide high-quality treatment options within the state, reducing the need for patients to seek expensive treatment elsewhere,” he added.
Sukhu said that Tanda medical college, which caters to nearly half of the state’s healthcare needs, would be upgraded with the latest technology and modern facilities. Around 5.89 lakh patients visit the hospital every year, highlighting the pressing need for these improvements.
To support these efforts, Sukhu said that a high-end laboratory would be established at Tanda. The preparations for the laboratory were underway. He assured the government’s full support in delivering top-notch medical services to people. “We can’t provide the best healthcare with outdated technology. The state government is committed to prioritising the education and healthcare sectors. The medical colleges can forward their demands and the government will fulfil every request,” he added.
The Chief Minister said that several positive outcomes from reforms introduced at Tanda medical college over the past two years had been witnessed, benefiting patients. “New procedures have been initiated in the Cardiology Department, including successful valve replacement, congenital heart defect repair and heart tumour surgeries. Additionally, renal denervation has been introduced at Tanda,” he added.
In terms of future advancements, the Chief Minister discussed plans for the installation of PET scan machines and robotic surgery facilities at Tanda medical college. He said, “The state government has also partnered with AIIMS to procure modern medical equipment.”
He said that the state government would construct new quarters to provide improved residential facilities for Tanda medical college staff.
