In a significant crackdown on the drug trade, the Sirmaur police have implemented a stringent zero-tolerance policy, leading to the arrest of 81 individuals involved in drug-related offences within just seven months. This robust operation has targeted both local and international drug networks, reflecting the police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
Since January 1, 2024, the Sirmaur police have registered 51 cases, resulting in the arrest of 81 suspects. These include two foreign nationals, 16 individuals from otherstates, and 63 residents of Himachal Pradesh. This wide net showcases the extensive reach and effectiveness of the police’s anti-drug initiatives.
Sirmaur Superintendent of Police Raman Kumar Meena has been at the forefront of this operation. Emphasising the detrimental impact of drugs on the youth, Meena reiterated that the only suitable place for those involved in the drug trade is behind bars. The police have been monitoring and targeting individuals directly or indirectly linked to drug trafficking, ensuring that all those involved are brought to justice.
The success of this initiative can be attributed to the collaborative efforts between the police and the local community. Various community policing schemes and awareness programmes have been implemented, fostering a proactive approach towards public safety. Additionally, the Sirmaur police have launched the Shakti App and Gudiya Helpline to ensure women’s safety and encourage community participation in crime prevention efforts.
The police’s efforts against drug trafficking underscore a comprehensive approach to tackling this critical matter.
