The seventh Nutrition Month, organised under the aegis of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, concluded on Monday following a series of events from September 1.

A district-level closing ceremony was held at Padhar in Mandi district, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan.

During the ceremony, the DC said out of more than 5,00,000 awareness programmes conducted across the state, the district alone organised 2,25,000, in a bid to promote the message of proper nutrition.

He commended the Women and Child Development Department for their efforts, and talked about the awareness work done by healthcare workers and Anganwadi staff throughout the year.

The DC stressed the need for greater public awareness regarding nutrition, stating that a balanced diet was essential for growth and health, providing the body with the ability to fight diseases. He pointed out the shift from traditional foods to fast-food in today’s fast-paced lifestyle, which often neglects nutritional needs.

The DC also visited a nutrition exhibition held under the National Nutrition Mission, and performed the ceremonial first feeding (Aann-Prashan) for newborns. He awarded scholarships to meritorious students under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, and honoured various individuals and projects for their outstanding contributions to maternal and child health.District Programme Officer Ajay Badrel welcomed the chief guest and provided details about the month’s activities.

The event was attended by local officials, including Padhar SDM Surjeet Singh and various Anganwadi workers.
