About 75 per cent of the coronavirus infection cases reported in Kangra district are from two metro cities of Delhi and Mumbai. Kangra district till date has 138 coronavirus cases out of which 103 are from Delhi and Mumbai alone. This includes 65 from Delhi and 38 from Mumbai.
Though the administration was claiming that there was no community spread in the area, six persons, including a doctor, policemen and a house owner, have contracted infection from the infected persons, who returned from other states.
The incidence of coronavirus infection was lower among the people returning from other areas of the country. There have been four cases in which people coming from other countries to Kangra have been tested positive for infection. Two of these people had returned from the USA, one from Singapore and one from Dubai.
The other coronavirus cases reported in Kangra district are eight persons who had returned from various cities of Punjab, one from Chandigarh, one from Panchkula, one from Madhya Pradesh, six from Gurugram, one from Chennai, five from Gujarat and one from Vijaywada.
There has been large-scale exodus of Himachal residents from Delhi and Mumbai. Till date, about 90,000 people have returned to Kangra from other parts of the country. Of these, about 18,000 are from Delhi.
However, the positive aspect has been that hardly any infected person, but for the Tibetan who died, required hospitalization. Out of 138 infection cases, 74 have recovered and there are 63 active cases now in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Rakesh Prajapati said the encouraging aspect was that most of infected persons did not develop any symptoms such as cough or fever and recovered without any medication. They were just given high protein diet, vitamin C tablets at Covid Containment Centres, he said.
The DC said due to high incidence of infection, those who are returning from Delhi and Mumbai are being put at institutional quarantine centres. They are allowed to go home after they test negative with an advisory that they would remain in home quarantine for a minimum period of seven days.
Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, in a video conference, had maintained that Himachal had been able to contain community spread of coronavirus infection just because of the fact all those who are coming from hot spot zones are being put under institutional quarantine. He had also commended the Kangra administration for preventing the community spread despite that about 90,000 persons have returned to the district from other parts of the country.
