Dream of pucca home comes true for disaster-hit Kasog families of Mandi

Rs 3 crore aid disbursed to 45 families devastated by the 2023 monsoon-induced disaster

Many families of Mandi district lost their houses at the time of the devastating natural disaster that struck the state in 2023. However, with the state government’s financial assistance, hope is turning into reality for these villagers. Scores of disaster-hit families are seeing their dream homes being rebuilt, thanks to the special relief package announced by the state’s government.

In the Karsog subdivision alone, 45 families lost their homes in the natural disaster. The state government has provided Rs 7 lakh per family for rebuilding homes, marking the first time that such an amount has been granted to enable these families recover from the devastation.

According to Varun Gulati, acting SDM, Karsog, as part of the special relief package, the state government has already disbursed Rs 6.8 lakh to each affected family in the Karsog subdivision and the final instalment of Rs 20,000 was pending. The reconstruction process is now nearing completion and the families hit by the natural disaster are excited, expecting to move back into permanent structures.

Residents such as Fulma Devi from Bagain, Devender Kumar from Ralla and Tek Chand and Suresh Kumar from Bakhrot shared their gratitude to the Sukhvinder Sukhu government. “The 2023 disaster was unimaginable and we lost everything. We had given up the hope of rebuilding our homes ever,” they said. “But thanks to the Chief Minister’s compassionate leadership, we are now rebuilding our lives. We will never forget the state government’s help during this time of need," they said.

The victims expressed their appreciation for the generous support, noting that this is the first time the government has provided Rs 7 lakh per family to rebuild homes, a significant increase from the previous amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. They said, this financial assistance has been a game-changer for the affected families, many of whom had struggled because of inadequate relief in the past.

The Acting SDM stated that under the special relief package, nearly Rs 3 crore have already been distributed to the 45 families in Karsog subdivision in Mandi. "The swift and substantial support from the government has enabled these families to reconstruct their homes which will ensure them security and stability," said Gulati.
