A 21-year-old youth working in a restaurant here has been killed near the police reporting room on Mall Road in the early hours of Monday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Manish, a resident of Kothi village in Kupvi tehsil. The accused has been identified as Satinder Pal (30), a resident of Haryana who worked in an adjoining restaurant.

According to police, the incident took place around 2 am when the accused entered the victim’s room and attacked him with a sharp weapon and fled the spot.

In order to save his life, Manish rushed towards the police assistance room and broke the glass of the control room’s door with the help of the same weapon that the accused had used on him.

Police rushed Manish to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Sadar police station SHO Dharamsen Negi said a case under Section 302 of the IPC had been registered against the accused.

The post-mortem is being conducted, he added.
