Rs 1,613.5 crore sought from Centre as relief for rain disaster losses
Himachal has sought Rs 1,613.50 crore from the Central Government to compensate for damages and losses suffered in natural calamities.
Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Chand Sharma today chaired a debriefing meeting with an Inter-Ministerial Central Team, which was on a three-day visit to the state to assess damages caused by severe cloudbursts and flashfloods during the monsoon season this year.
The Central team’s visit was part of a coordinated effort to evaluate the extensive impact on infrastructure, human lives and agricultural assets across the state
Sharma said that the state government presented a comprehensive memorandum of damages and losses caused by the natural calamities, with cumulative losses estimated at Rs 1,613.50 crore. He said that monsoon-induced landslides, cloudbursts and flashfloods had severely impacted roads, irrigation schemes and residential areas in the state.
He said the state endured 46 landslides, 12 cloudbursts and 39 flashfloods, resulting in devastation and huge losses. These incidents led to a loss of 174 lives, 31 persons going missing with an additional 144 fatalities indirectly linked to rainfall-related hazards.
Besides, 1,405 houses and animal shelters suffered damage. The state government had allocated Rs 621.77 crore for immediate restoration efforts, primarily for damaged roads and bridges.
