Himachal Pradesh deemed as best-performing state in Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems

Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday was adjudged as the best-performing state in the implementation of Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) under the hilly states’ category.

This came to light during the online conference presided by the Minister of State (Home) G Kishan Reddy.

A two-day seminar was organised by the National Crime Records Bureau on CCTNS and Inter-operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS) on December 15-16.

“This is the recognition of the hard work the State Police has put into implementing CCTNS”, said DGP Sanjay Kundu.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has also congratulated the DGP and the Himachal Pradesh Police for their achievement.

Himachal was the first state in the country to prepare a customised system as per their requirements, adding, that state-centric new modules like registration of migrant labours, the emergency response of control rooms and department related Vidhan Sabha questions.

The pilot project was launched in February 2015, in five police station in Shimla.

The CCTNS provides enhanced tools for investigation, crime prevention, law and order maintenance, and other functions like traffic management and emergency response, improve communication, automating back-office functions, helping police staff to focus more on core police functions and provide improved service delivery to the public, citizens and stakeholders through access to police services in a citizen-friendly manner.

This has also helped in creating a platform for sharing of intelligence across the state, country, and other agencies, besides sharing crime and criminal information database—across the state and country—enabling, improved and speedy investigations, crime prevention and tracking of criminals, suspects, accused, and repeat offenders.

Under the implementation of CCTNS project, a total of 177 sites, including 144 police stations, 13 district headquarters, 26 sub-division police officers, three range office, one zone, State Crime Record Bureau, Police Headquarters, State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, CID crime branch, 14 control rooms, fingerprint bureau, forensic science laboratory, 16 CCTNS training centres, including state data centre and data recovery centre are being covered in the state.
