High drama as woman dies after delivery at hospital

High drama was witnessed at Khanna when a woman breathed her last after giving birth to a child at a private hospital here. The family and relatives of the woman protested outside the hospital and later blocked the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway.

Doctors at the hospital also went on a strike and later, the police reached the scene.

Jagjit Singh, husband of deceased Sandeep Kaur, said his wife was bleeding after the delivery but staff did not pay attention to her deteriorating health and failed to call the doctor on time. The woman was referred to another hospital but she died before reaching the place. The family wants to get a case registered against the doctor.

Meanwhile, doctors said they were not to be blamed for the death of the patient. Still, if the family was not convinced, they could get the autopsy done.

Later, police officials reached the scene and got the protesters removed from the road and it was decided to get the autopsy done outside Khanna so that the result could not be influenced. Autopsy will be conducted at Fatehgarh Sahib. Its report will arrive in a few days, after which action will be taken.
