The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notice to the state of Punjab through Chief Secretary on a petition seeking the removal of Raj Kamal Chaudhari from the post of State Election Commissioner (SEC) on the grounds that he was disentitled to hold the post as he was now a retired IAS officer.

The Bench of Justice Vinod S Bhardwaj also issued notice to the Principal Secretary and Chaudhari on the petition filed by advocate HC Arora. The next hearing will be held on January 22, 2025. Arora contended as per law, it was clear that a retired official could not be appointed the SEC.
