Heavy rain lashes several parts of state; yellow alert issued for today
Heavy to very heavy rainfall occured in many places of Himachal Pradesh amid orange weather warning that was issued by State’s Meteorological Department today.
Dhaula Kuan in Sirmaur district received 275 mm rain, highest in the state, followed by 165.5 mm rain in Paonta Sahib. Kangra received 130 mm, Nahan 90 mm, Dharamsala 54 mm, Mandi 42.2 mm, Nadaun and Shimla 40 mm each, Palampur 39 mm and Kasauli received 10 mm rain.
A yellow weather warning has been issued for Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur, Kangra, Chamba, Solan and Sirmaur districts for September 27. As per the warning, thunderstorms and lightning are very likely to occur in these districts.
As per the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rainfall will continue to occur across the state till September 29. Weather will remain dry from September 30 onwards.
Maximum temperature in state’s capital Simla was 20.8°C while in Dharamsala and Kasauli, maximum temperatures were 29°C and 21.5°C, respectively. Solan recorded 24.5°C maximum temperature, Bilaspur 31.7°C and Chamba 31.3°C. With 38.4°C maximum temperature, Una was the hottest place in the state while Kukumseri was the coldest as it recorded 10.4°C maximum temperature.
Meanwhile, 53 roads remain blocked due to heavy rainfall. This include 32 roads in Sirmaur district, 10 in Kangra district, and eight in Mandi district.
