Health officials seize Pregabalin from medical store in Ajnala
Days after the confiscation of a huge quantity of intoxicating drugs, included Pregabalin, from a medical store in Katra Sher Singh market here, officials of the Health Department also seized the banned drug worth Rs 98,000 in market value from a chemist shot in Ajnala.
A team of the Health Department led by Drug Inspector Sukhdeep Singh raided Sarpal Medical Hall following a tip-off that the owner of the shop was involved in illegal sale of banned formulation of Pregabalin. During the raid, the team confiscated 2,800 tablets of Pregabalin of 300mg and 1,500 tablets of Pregabalin of 150mg.
The shop was located on Chogwan road in Ajnala. Gaurav Sarpal, owner of the store, failed to produce the purchase bills and corresponding sale records of the seized drugs.
The District Magistrate has banned the sale of Pregabalin formulations exceeding 75 mg due to rising concerns over its abuse under Section 163 of Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Following a complaint filed by the Health Department, the Ajnala police have registered a case under Section 223 of BNS against Gaurav Sarpal for violating the district administration’s order.
The Health Department had also seized a huge quantity of intoxicating drugs, including Pregabalin, worth Rs 14.80 lakh from Maa Chintpurni Phamaceuticals in Katra Sher Singh area.
During the inspection, six types of drugs, including 4,400 capsules of Pregabalin (150mg and 300mg) and 4,200 capsules of Gabapentin were seized. Rajan Trehan, in charge of the store, failed to produce any record regarding the sale and purchase of Gabapentin.
