Health officials raid shops, restaurants
To provide clean and quality food to people in the district, a food safety team of the Health Department conducted raids in various parts of the district. Led by District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia, Food Safety Officer Munish Sodhi and his team conducted checking in Tanda area and its adjoining town of Khudda Kurala. A restaurant located on Jalandhar Road in Tanda was inspected and a sample of cake and two samples of paneer taken from there. The restaurant workers were instructed to wear gloves and caps while preparing and serving food.
The team also took a sample of tea leaves during the checking of a grocery shop. After this, the team checked the rolling of jaggery in Khudda Kurala and two samples of jaggery and sugar were taken from there. The rolling pin owner was instructed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. The team took a total of six samples, which have been sent to a food lab in Kharar for inspection. Further action will be taken after the report of the samples is received.
The District Health Officer warned of appropriate action against those who violate the rules. He instructed the shopkeepers not to sell food items that were past their expiry date. Strict action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act against the violators, he warned.
