The Health Ministry has proposed mandatory non-skippable anti-tobacco health spots and audio-visual disclaimers on ill-effects of tobacco use on all OTT platforms.

The draft titled “The Cigarette and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Amendment Rules 2024” is an updated version of the anti-tobacco regulations issued by the Health Ministry in May 2022.

The draft says any film released on or after September 2023 has to display a 30-second spot at the beginning and middle of films and a 20-second disclaimer upon opening the OTT platform.

The streaming platforms will now be required to show these health spots and disclaimers not only at the beginning and middle of programmes, but also as soon as the platform is opened.
