Addressing the closing ceremony of a three-day regional sports competition at Government Senior Secondary School, Mamlig, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Social Justice and Empowerment and Sainik Welfare DR Shandil urged the youth to learn the intricacies of the game and try to excel. Players’ award money increased

While the award money of the players who performed well in the Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games has been increased by a record amount, the diet money of the players is also being increased to motivate them to perform better. — DR Shandil, Minister of Health

In this three-day competition for U-19 boys, 348 players from 21 schools competed in kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, badminton and wrestling. Shandil said “Today sports are providing better opportunities. In the recently held Paris Olympics and Paralympics, players have made the whole world aware of the dedication, discipline and practice needed to excel.”

He said Indian players have also proven their talent in these games. “At present, individual practice and scientific efficiency are necessary for excelling in sports. The youth should keep on improving their game and set the goal of best performance at the highest level.”

He said the state government is making efforts to encourage sports. “While the award money of the players who performed well in the Olympics, Asian and Commonwealth Games has been increased by a record amount, the diet money of the players is also being increased to motivate them to perform better.”

He said stadiums are also being built at various places in the state so that the players can get good facilities. Urging the youth to say no to drugs, he said: “Along with education and sports, the youth should also imbibe social values.”

He announced that he would provide Rs 5 lakh for undertaking additional construction at the school and Rs 21,000 from his discretionary fund to the organising committee. He also felicitated the winners of various competitions.

In kabaddi, Government Senior Secondary School, Kahlog, was the winner and Government Bal Senior Secondary School, Solan, stood second. In volleyball, Government Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Mamlig, bagged the top position and Government Bal Senior Secondary School, Solan, came second. In kho-kho, Government Senior Secondary School, Dumehar, won and Government Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Mamlig, stood second. In badminton, Government Senior Secondary School, Chail, won the first position and Government Senior Secondary School, Kotla, was second. In wrestling, Government Senior Secondary School, Sayri, excelled and Government Senior Secondary School, Kandaghat, was second.
