Food Safety Officer Vivek Kumar and his team inspected shops, warehouses and factories, which make desi ghee and butter in the city.

District Health Officer Dr Jatinder Bhatia said acting on a tip-off, the inspection was done at Khanpuri Gate, Gaushala Bazaar and Gur Mandi.

During checking, seven samples of desi ghee and butter were collected. He said the samples had been sent to Food Lab, Kharar, and further action would be taken on the basis of the test report under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. He said they also destroyed expired desi ghee and butter.

The District Health Officer said keeping in mind the festive season, such inspections would continue in future as well.

He said any kind of adulteration or sale of expired goods would not be tolerated and stern action would be taken against the violators under the Food Safety Standards Act, 2006.
