Youth killed, mother hurt in attack over plot of land
A 20-year-old youth was killed and his mother was critically injured in an attack by his cousin with a hammer at Islampur village here early Wednesday morning. The attack, believed to be motivated by a personal dispute over a plot of land, happened around 5.30 am. An FIR was filed at the Sadar police station.
Following the incident, tensions in the village were high but remained under control as an adequate police force was deployed as a precautionary measure.
The victim was identified as Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Islampur village. According to the police, Rakesh was asleep at his home when his cousin, Ravinder, entered the house and attacked him with a hammer.
Rajesh, Rakesh’s brother, filed a complaint stating that Ravinder, the son of their uncle, barged into the house armed with a hammer and attacked Rakesh while he was sleeping. When their mother tried to intervene, Ravinder assaulted her as well, leaving her critically injured. Ravinder then attempted to flee the scene, abandoning the hammer.
Rakesh and his mother were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared Rakesh dead. The attack is believed to have stemmed from personal enmity related to a family dispute over a plot of land, which had been settled in a panchayat four months prior.
A police team, along with a dog squad and forensic experts, arrived at the scene and took the hammer into custody. Inspector Arjun Dhundhara, SHO of the Sadar police station, said an FIR for murder has been registered against Ravinder.
