Youth fests avenues for students to show skills: Dr Gandhi

A three-day 47th Zonal Youth Festival of Kurukshetra University, being hosted by Guru Nanak Girls College, commenced in Yamunanagar today. The chief guest of the function was Prof Vivek Chawla, Director, Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs (DYCA), Kurukshetra University. Other distinguished guests included Dr Saurav Chowdhry, member, International Geeta Jayanti Mahotsav; Harvinder Rana, supervisor, Youth festival, Department of Youth and Cultural Affairs, KUK; Dr Anupama Arya, Principal, Arya Girls College, Ambala and principals and faculty members of various other colleges.

In his inaugural speech, Prof Chawla praised the students for their efforts and commended the organisers for bringing talent of the students to the fore. Director of the college Dr Varinder Gandhi emphasised that such platforms were powerful avenues for students to enhance their personalities and show their skills .

Presenting the college report, Principal of the college, Dr Harvinder Kaur, stated that over 15 colleges were participating in the festival, with students competing in 44 different disciplines.

On the first day of the youth festival, a number of events such as choreography, group Haryanvi dance, rituals, pop song (Haryanvi), Sanskrit drama, classical solo dance, Haryanvi solo dance (female) and mime were hosted.

Besides, painting, poster-making, rangoli and quiz competitions were conducted. In the choreography competition, the team from Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamunanagar, secured the first position, while the team from DAV Girls College, Yamunanagar, came second.

She said that in the classical vocal solo competition, the team from Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamunanagar, achieved the first place; the team from DAV Girls College, Yamunanagar, secured the second place and the team from MLN College, Yamunanagar, stood third.
