Ensuring the safety of students while travelling in school buses is a concern for every parent. However, Harpreet Kaur, a Class VIII student of Aarohi Model School, Jhiri village, Sirsa district, has addressed the concern by creating an innovative device aimed at making school bus travel safer.

Under the guidance of her teacher, Kamal Kishore, Harpreet developed the “Smart transportation system”, which promises to make school buses much safer for the students.

The device has been selected for display at the 51st National Children's Science Exhibition (RBVP), organised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), which will be held from December 16 to 21 at the Indradhanush Auditorium in Panchkula.

The ‘Smart transportation system’ ensures that the school bus cannot move past a red traffic signal, making sure that the students are not put in danger by the driver. Additionally, the bus will only be able to move when the green signal is on and when all students have safely boarded or exited the bus. This feature will greatly enhance the safety of children travelling on school buses.

The District Education Officer, Butaram, Block Education Officer Manisha, District Science Expert Dr Mukesh Kumar, National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) Nodal Officer Harish Chawla, and school in-charge Ritesh Kumar all congratulated Harpreet Kaur and her mentor, Kamal Kishore, for their outstanding achievement and wished them a bright future.

Harpreet said she felt sad whenever she heard about incidents related to school vans, so she wanted to create a device that would make children's journeys safe. She said her guide and physics teacher Kamal Kishore, helped her while making this device.

Dr Mukesh Kumar stated that the Children’s Science Exhibition provided a great platform for talented students to showcase their skills and Harpreet Kaur was a perfect example. She had made Sirsa proud he said.
