Yamunanagar’s Saraswati Sugar Mill starts crushing operation
The Saraswati Sugar Mills (SSM), Yamunanagar, began its crushing operation on Tuesday.
The crushing operation was started by SK Sachdeva, Chief Executive of the SSM and Naina Puri, a member of the management of the SSM.
So far, the SSM is the first mill, which has started its crushing operation in Haryana in the current crushing season. With the start of the mill, a number of farmers will be able to sow their wheat crop after harvesting sugarcane on time. Chief Executive SK Sachdeva said the SSM had fixed a target of 160 lakh quintals of sugarcane during this crushing season, however, the mill had crushed 146 lakh quintals of sugarcane last year. He said a special ‘Saraswati Sugarcane Farmers Registered’ scheme had been launched for the cane growers of the mill area. He further said the scheme facilitated the farmers to supply 85 per cent or more of their total cane production to the mill and get the double subsidy on all required pesticides in addition to free of cost press-mud and pheromone trap for the qualifying farmers, who supplied their entire produce to the sugar mill.
He requested the farmers to supply their cane produce to the mill and get all benefits under the scheme. He also said three cane harvesters had been engaged this year to facilitate mechanical harvesting of sugarcane to overcome the labour problem and benefit of mechanical cane harvesting would be taken by planting sugarcane on 4-5 ft wide row spacing. DP Singh, senior vice-president (cane) of the SSM, said besides direct supply to the mill, the farmers could supply sugarcane at 45 sugarcane purchase centres, set up by the mill in its command area. “We have provided 38 cane loaders at sugarcane purchase centres to overcome the problem of labour,” said DP Singh. According to information, after harvesting of sugarcane, about 25,000 to 30,000 acres wheat crop is sown in the area falling under the command area of the SSM. “The mill has started the crushing season on time and a number of farmers will be able to sow wheat crop after harvesting their sugarcane crop,” said Anil Kumar, a farmer of Lal Chhappar Majri village.
