Yamunanagar, August 31

The district administration will install CCTV cameras at check posts in a bid to stop the movement of liquor, narcotics, illegal cash, illegal arms and ammunition from neighbouring states of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

The administration may also seal inter-state borders 72 hours before the polling to conduct the Assembly election in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Haryana on October 1. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Capt Manoj Kumar and Superintendent of Police Ganga Ram Punia held a meeting with the officers of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh.

The meeting was held through video-conferencing on Thursday regarding security arrangements in view of the Haryana Assembly election 2024.

Issues like the sealing of borders, setting up of check posts and installation of CCTV cameras were discussed at the meeting.

District Election Officer Capt Manoj Kumar said, “We also spoke to our counterparts (officers of Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh) about implementing a dry day 48 hours before the polling. We discussed the need for coordination among various officers.”

SP Ganga Ram Punia said discussions were held about sharing information about proclaimed offenders and interstate criminals.
