The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has started drives to remove illegal publicity material and encroachments from Yamunanagar, Jagadhri and villages falling under the civic body’s jurisdiction.

The teams of the MCYJ have been removing illegal publicity material, including hoardings, posters, banners and flex boards, from twin cities for the past three days. The SDO of the MCYJ, Rajesh Sharma, said they had started a drive to remove illegal publicity material from November 20.

He said that during this period the teams removed illegal publicity material from the Govindpuri road, Railway road, Model Town, Maharana Pratap Chowk, Shahid Bhagat Singh Chowk, Bhatia Nagar, Buria Chowk, Agrasain Chowk, Jagadhri bus stand and several other areas of the twin cities.

He said that people illegally install publicity material on public places, streetlight poles, walls of parks and other places. He further said that this unauthorised work deteriorated the beauty of the twin cities and caused revenue losses to the municipal corporation.

“This drive is being carried out on the directions of Haryana Urban Local Bodies Minister Vipul Goel and Yamunanagar Municipal Commissioner Ayush Sinha. The drive shall continue until the twin cities become free from illegal publicity material,” said the SDO.

He said that after removing the publicity material, the team members took those hoardings, banners and other publicity material to the godown of the MCYJ.

On the other hand, under the anti-encroachment drive, a team of the MCYJ removed encroachments from the Railway road and Meerabai Market in Ward No. 15 of Zone II of the MCYJ on Friday.

Chief Sanitary Inspector Sunil Dutt said that the team of the MCYJ confiscated goods kept in front of the shops and issued challans to several shopkeepers for spreading garbage in open spaces and committing encroachments.

“When the team started removing goods kept on the road, several shopkeepers themselves started picking up their goods and keeping them inside their shops. During the drive, the goods kept on the roads by several shopkeepers were also confiscated,” said the CSI.

He said that shopkeepers and street vendors encroached upon the roads by placing their goods on them, causing traffic jams on roads. “Sometimes, emergency services like ambulance and fire brigade services are affected due to traffic jams. Therefore, all shopkeepers are urged to keep their goods inside the shop instead of keeping them on the road, so that the public does not face any problem in crossing the road,” said Dutt.
