A two-day Agricultural Officer Workshop (Rabi)-2024 started at the Agricultural College Auditorium of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) today.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Prof BR Kamboj inaugurated the workshop which has been organised by the Directorate of Extension Education. Scientists of the university and agricultural officers from all districts of the Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Department of the state are participating in the workshop.

Kamboj said the university had been providing crop advisories to farmers, due to which they were getting help in taking decisions related to agriculture. He said new varieties, new techniques and new recommendations as well as future strategies would be discussed in detail during the workshop. He called upon farmers to cultivate pulses and oilseed crops instead of traditional crops to make the agricultural sector more profitable. He said farmers should be encouraged to cultivate those crops which required less amount of nutrients and water as well as low production cost. He said the paramount objective was increasing agricultural production and farmers' income, besides ensuring food security and limited use of natural resources. He said the university was working in a planned manner to promote natural and organic farming. He said food grain production in Haryana had increased to 332 lakh metric tonnes during 2023-24, due to which the state had become the second largest contributor to the central pool of the country. He said the increase in food grain production was due to the advanced varieties of seeds developed by the university, modern agricultural technology, as well as the delivery of such technologies to farmers by the Department of Agriculture and Krishi Vigyan Kendras.
