Won’t forge alliance with BJP, JJP in Haryana Assembly poll, says BKU’s Gurnam Singh Charuni

Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU-Charuni) president Gurnam Singh Charuni said Sanyukt Sangharsh Party (SSP) would contest the upcoming Assembly elections for all 90 seats in the state. He said this while addressing a joint district-level meeting of the BKU (Charuni) and the SSP at Neem Sahib Gurdwara in Kaithal on Friday.

“Our party will contest the Assembly elections on all 90 seats, for which I am meeting party workers and leaders,” said Charuni. He criticised the prevailing problems in politics, including corruption and casteism, and emphasised the party’s aim of entering politics to secure the rights of the poor, weak, exploited and marginalised.

When asked about an alliance with any party, Charuni said they had a soft stance towards the INLD and Congress but a firm position against the BJP and the JJP. He said there would be no alliance with either of them under any circumstances. “We have had no discussions with any party about an alliance, but we are firm on not aligning with the BJP or the JJP,” he said.

Highlighting the problem of farmers’ suicides, he said, on average, 33 farmers committed suicide in the country every day. He pointed out that nine people in the country possessed wealth equivalent to that of 50 crore people. “Due to the wrong policies of the state and Central governments, the common man has been forced to take to the streets in protest. When the government fails to address our concerns, we have no choice but to form a political party and enter politics to raise the voices of farmers and common people,” he said, adding that their main issue in elections would be related to the public.
