The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Friday observed a ‘black day’ over the alleged killing of a young farmer in the police crackdown on the Haryana-Punjab border.

It was for the first time that the SKM, which had played a crucial role to unite around 40 farmers’ association during the 2020-21 agitation, has come out in support of the farmers who are protesting under the banner of SKM (Non-Political).

Farm associations affiliated with the SKM burnt effigies of BJP leaders in different parts of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. They also slammed the police action against farmers.

Moreover, the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Charuni) has also announced its support to the agitation. BKU (Charuni) president Gurnam Singh Charuni has formed an 11-member committee to unite the leaders of the SKM and SKM (Non-Political).

“We have decided to bring members and leaders of the SKM and SKM (Non-Political) on one platform. We will unite the entire farmers’ fraternity for the cause,” Charuni said on Friday.

The SKM has demanded that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state Home Minister Anil Vij be booked for the “murder” of the protesting farmer, Shubhkaran.

The BKU (Tikait), which is one of the biggest association affiliated with the SKM, has announced to take out a tractor march on February 26.

However, the government has so far not announced any schedule for the next round of meeting with the protesting farmers.
