Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today slammed the BJP government for keeping the Shambhu border barricaded and said once the Congress comes to power in the state, he would try to reopen the Haryana-Punjab border.

The Shambhu border has been lying closed due to the ongoing farmers’ protest since February.

Addressing a rally in Ambala City in support of party candidate Nirmal Singh, Hooda said, “India is a democratic country. I fail to understand why the farmers were stopped at the Shambhu border in an undemocratic manner. The government should have listened to the farmers and resolved their problems but the authorities cane-charged them.”

“After forming the government, we will try to open the border. The Congress will also give a legal guarantee of MSP to farmers in Haryana. Even in the Centre we have a strong leader (Rahul Gandhi). We will force Modi government to give legal guarantee of MSP to the farmers and implement the recommendations of Swaminathan report.”

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, who was scheduled to address two rallies, couldn’t reach the venue as he had been advised rest.
