Accusing the BJP of being oblivious to youth and their needs in Ahirwal, especially Gurugram, AICC national secretary Vardhan Yadav announced that the Congress would transform the region into wrestling hub.

Yadav is contesting from the state’s biggest constituency, Badshahpur, in millennium city Gurugram and has over five lakh voters.

He said that while Ahirwal has a lot of passion for the sport, it got no encouragement or infrastructure support from the BJP for almost 10 years. Ahirwal required attention like Deswal belt to have its own Olympian brigade and only the Congress could do so, he said.

“The BJP has been oblivious to the region and Gurugram in particular. The millennium city is a sports hub but for whom? Those who can shell lakhs for private training? Rural sports have died due to neglect and lack of arrangements. We have many akhadas in our constituency which is part of millennium city but who knows about these? The Congress gave much-required push to sports and its stronghold Deswal is the best example of it. We need to make Ahirwal like that,” said Yadav.

“What has the BJP done for youth? Pushing them into unemployment and destroying their passion for sports by lack of encouragement. The rural youth have passion, dedication and talent but no facility…nothing. They had their government at the Centre and the state but what did Gurugram get? Enter any village and talk to any young person and you will realise the disappointment amongst them. I am part of Badshahpur’s youth community and they will be my priority. My first agenda would be to land Badshahpur on the sports map,” he said.

Vardhan has debuted in one of the toughest battles in the state. With no political legacy, Yadav is taking on BJP veteran former minister Rao Narbir. Yadav, however, considers his ‘newness’ as an asset. “ I am a common man. I connect with people, especially youth, at the ground level. I am not making promises, but offering solutions. People need a change and the results will prove it,” said Yadav.
