Kurukshetra, March 5

Bhartiya Kisan Union (Charuni) chief Gurnam Singh Charuni today said that his union would continue to support the farmers’ agitation from outside, and the core committee would keep a watch on the situation. The union had called a state-level meeting of its office-bearers and activists at Jat Dharamshala here today.

Foot march to Delhi cancelled

There was a plan to start a foot march towards Delhi from Pipli in Kurukshetra on March 6, but following a call given by the SKM (NP) and KMM to farmer activists across the country, except Haryana and Punjab, to head towards Delhi, we have cancelled the foot march. A core committee has been formed to keep a watch on the ongoing situation. — Gurnam Singh, BKU (C) Chief

Speaking to mediapersons, Gurnam Singh said, “A meeting of the state body was held and it has been decided that we will continue to support the agitation from outside and further decisions will be taken on the basis of the next calls of the agitating unions. An 11-member committee was formed to hold discussions with the SKM, SKM (non-political) and KMM but there was no positive response. There were indications from the SKM (non-political) and KMM that they don’t want any direct interference from the unions not involved in the agitation, and they want to run the agitation on their own.”
