Wife of jailed gangster Chaudhary arrested for extortion
The Gurugram police have arrested lady don Manisha, wife of jailed gangster Kaushal Chaudhary, for allegedly demanding Rs 2 crore in extortion from a hotel owner. She reportedly threatened the hotel over the phone using the names of Chaudhary and gangster Amit Dagar.
Two mobile phones were recovered from her possession. After being presented in a city court on Monday, she was remanded to six-day police custody.
According to the police, a hotel employee filed a complaint on September 15, reporting that a woman had called the hotel on September 10, identifying herself as a member of the Kaushal Chaudhary and Amit Dagar gang. She allegedly demanded Rs 2 crore in “protection money”, threatening to open fire on the hotel if the demand was not met and warning of further consequences if they reported the incident to the police. An FIR was subsequently registered at the Bilaspur police station.
During the investigation, a team from the crime unit in Manesar, led by Sub-Inspector Lalit Kumar, arrested Manisha from Devilal Colony. Varun Dahiya, ACP Crime, said Manisha (35) admitted to involvement in a firing incident for extortion at the Highway King hotel in Neemrana, Rajasthan. She also disclosed providing illegal weapons to four persons arrested after a police encounter in Manesar Valley, as well as another suspect arrested in Sector 29, Gurugram.
“Upon reviewing Manisha’s criminal record, we found three cases against her in Gurugram related to extortion, murder and fraud. The accused has previously served terms in Bhondsi Jail in Gurugram and Hoshiarpur Jail in Punjab. We are now questioning her further after taking her on remand,” ACP Dahiya said.
Previously, in June 2019, Manisha was arrested by the Delhi Police after complaints from businessmen and traders who claimed Kaushal was threatening them and demanding protection money. Funds collected by gang members were reportedly sent to Kaushal through hawala transactions while he was in Dubai.
The Kaushal Chaudhary gang has been active for over a decade, involved in more than 200 cases of murder, attempted murder and extortion. Currently, Kaushal and his associate Dagar are in jail, while their wives have continued to run the extortion racket. Another lady don, Twinkle, Dagar’s wife, was previously arrested in a separate extortion case.
