Packs of stray dogs can be seen in every street, on roads and on all chowks in the residential areas of the city. They run towards motorbikes causing accidents. Dog bite cases have also increased in the city. Lethargic attitude of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has become life threatening for the people in the city. The MC authorities should curb the menace by launching a special sterlisation programme on a priority basis.

Road work abandoned

On the busy Canal Road here, the contractor who was laying interlocking tiles on its both sides, abruptly abandoned the job midway leaving the mounds of tiles, which lie scattered up to the middle of the road. There's 24-hour traffic on this road and school buses and other vehicles find it difficult to manoeuvre due to the blocking of major part of the road due to the abandoned tiles. The PWD should either lay them on both sides as planned or lift them from here to clear the blockade of the main road.

Rein in the wrongdoers

The accompanying photograph was taken near a school in Sector 21, Panchkula. It reveals the real inside story of level of cleanliness here. Such a sorry state affairs could be the handiwork of some errant residents and vested interests, who conveniently dump the waste building and construction materials and other household garbage here without any fear of being taken to task by the authorities concerned. It is felt that Panchkula administration should suitably 'fence' this open-ended area after getting rid of its messy situation. Moreover, adequate number of the CCTV cameras should also be installed here to keep a constant tab on all wrongdoers.
