What our readers say: Roads riddled with potholes in kaithal
The 6-km stretch of road from Assandh to Safidon is in a terrible condition, making travel difficult and unsafe. The road is riddled with large potholes, uneven surfaces and poor drainage, leading to frequent traffic jams and vehicle damage. During the monsoon, the situation worsens, with the road becoming nearly impassable due to waterlogging. Urgent repair and maintenance are needed to restore safe and smooth travel for commuters.

City Square project hanging fire in Kaithal
The City Square project launched with much fanfare over 10 years ago has been hanging fire and there seems to be no possibility that this project will be completed anytime soon. The project was the brainchild of then Haryana minister Randeep Singh Surjewala who had initiated the idea of a city square to shift banks and scores of coaching centres scattered in various parts of the town to this site to get rid of the parking chaos on busy roads. The estimated cost of the project was Rs 34 crore which had now risen to Rs 54 crore. After initial hiccups, the project was started, but during the past 10 years, the contractor had to stop its construction many times as there were allegations of serious irregularities and even state Vigilance had instituted investigations and booked the then contractor and Municipal Council functionaries. Even now, there is no construction activity at the site and the structure constructed years ago has weakened. Though senior govt officials intervened to get the construction started, no serious efforts have been put in by political leadership of the state. The residents want this project to be completed at the earliest.
