What our readers say: No end to stray dog menace in twin cities
Stray dog menace is on the rise in Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. Many dogs can be seen roaming around in the twin cities. When residents attempt to make them leave the area, they often become aggressive and attack people. Lone pedestrians and children are particularly vulnerable to such attacks. The authorities concerned should pay immediate attention to solve this problem. Sachin, Yamunanagar
Cleanliness goes for toss in Ambala
THE area near the Aadhaar registration centre, situated in front of the Mini-Secretariat, Court Complex in Ambala, is strewn with garbage. The offices of the SDM, DRO, Tehsildar and the CEO are situated here, yet a heap of muck welcomes people. Thousands of people visit this office on a daily basis, but nobody is concerned about cleaning the area. The stakeholders of the Swachh Bharat Mission have disappeared after spending huge amounts on publicity and other paraphernalia. The authorities concerned should look into the matter. Gian P Kansal, Ambala
Demolition no solution to illegal colonies
Demolishing illegal colonies or halting the registration of plots within these is not a sustainable solution to the problem. Instead, the government should focus on acquiring agricultural land within the MC’s limits to develop residential colonies. If the government is unable to acquire agricultural land on its own, private developers should be permitted to establish colonies under proper regulations. Currently, it is difficult for farmers to continue farming on agricultural land within the MC’s limits due to the growing menace of stray animals. As a result, developers buy such land and develop colonies, but lack registration leaving buyers’ lifetime savings at risk. Shakti Singh, Karnal
