Waterlogged railway underpass irks motorists in Fatehabad village

Residents of Sadhanwas village in Fatehabad district have expressed concerns over persistent water accumulation on the railway underpass that connects the area with Punjab.

The underpass, originally designed to facilitate transportation, now holds up to 3 ft of water during the monsoon season due to inadequate drainage arrangements. This poses a significant risk to motorists passing through the stretch as they cannot gauge the depth of water and often get stuck midway.

Residents from about 12 villages take the underpass to reach several towns of Sangrur district in Punjab. These villages are Sadhanwas, Sidhani, Chandpura, Talwara, Talwari, Mundlian, among others.

The sarpanch of Sadhanwas village, Gurpreet Singh, said the underpass, which was meant to benefit the community, had become more of a nuisance due to the negligence of the authorities. He alleged that despite considerable investment on constructing the underpass, a proper drainage system was never put in place, resulting in severe waterlogging during the rainy season.

Villagers have demanded immediate action to ensure effective water drainage and repair of the road.

Meanwhile, Navin Verma, Inspector, Railway Construction Department, Jakhal, said they were unaware of water accumulation at the site but assured that appropriate measures would be taken upon verification of the situation.

The villagers have called for urgent measures to address the issue for their safety and convenience.
