Wanted criminal held in police encounter
The police have arrested an alleged criminal, who was wanted in an attempt to murder case, after a brief exchange of fire on Thursday night.
The accused, who was injured in the firing, has been admitted to hospital. A pistol and two cartridges have been seized.
A spokesperson of the police department said the encounter took place near Sector 59 (adjoining Delhi- Mumbai Expressway) when a police team, led by Sub-Inspector Jagminder, reached the spot to arrest the accused, identified as Manish.
He said as the cops asked him to surrender, the latter opened fire to evade the arrest. Claiming that while one of the bullets hit the SI, the police opened fire in self-defence, resulting in injuries to the accused as he was hit in his leg. This led to the accused’s arrest.
He had been on the run for the past few weeks after he had been involved in a firing incident on October 5, when Rajnish Singh, a resident of Bharat Colony, was injured.
The cops seized a 32 bore pistol and two live cartridges. While a case under various sections of the BNS has been registered, the accused has been shifted to the Civil Hospital for treatment under police custody.
