Addressing a large gathering at Khuian Malkana toll plaza in Dabwali, farmer leader Lakhwinder Aulakh called on the community to unite against the political forces responsible for the hardships faced by farmers. He urged voters to remember the sacrifices of those who died during the farmer protests, including the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, and ensure that the ruling parties like the BJP and JJP were kept out of power in the upcoming elections.

Aulakh emphasised that the suffering endured by farmers during their year-long protests should not be forgotten.

The event was organised by the Indian Farmers Unity to honour the memory of Kamaljit Singh, a farmer from Haibuana village who lost his life during the farmers’ protest (part-1). Kamaljit Singh, who had been actively involved in the protest at the Tikri border, tragically died in an accident while returning home. As he was disembarking from a bus at the Khuian Malkana toll plaza, he met with an accident which proved fatal.

The farmers and community members paid floral tributes to Kamaljit Singh’s statue in remembrance of his sacrifice. His brother, Kulwinder Singh, was also honoured with a ceremonial shawl. The event was a moment to reflect on the many farmers who gave their lives during both phases of the farmers’ protest.

Following the ceremony, the “Kisaan Mange Insaaf” march proceeded through several nearby villages, including Haibuana, Mangeana, Neelianwali, Panniwala Ruldu, and Mithdi. The marchers raised serious concerns about the pollution caused by a nearby ethanol factory. This factory has created a fearful atmosphere among the villagers, as toxic emissions, ash and smoke are severely affecting their health. The local farmers have also reported crop damage due to the pollution by the factory. The ash from the plant is reportedly reaching homes and fields in multiple villages, posing a grave threat to both human health and the agricultural economy.

He cautioned the crowd against being misled by political figures, he also said the farmers must remain united in their struggle. He also reminded everyone of the 378 days spent protesting on the streets, facing harsh weather, police brutality and political neglect.
