Haryana Agricultural University to research effects of climate change on drumstick

Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU), Hisar, and Massey University, New Zealand, will jointly conduct research on the impact of climate change on drumstick.
Vice-Chancellor Professor BR Kamboj said today that the research would be conducted on the effects of climate change on the tannins and antioxidant properties in the seeds and leaves of the drumstick plant.
For this, samples of the plant will be collected from the Himalayan as well as southern regions of the country.
Two teams have been formed by the HAU for the research. Dr Jayanti Tokas, Dr Akshay Bhukar, Dr Craig McGill and Dr Penny Back have been included in the team.
The leaves of drumstick are a great source of protein and also contain important amino acids. Its leaves are mainly rich in nutrients such as calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron and vitamins A, D and C. The plant’s leaves are used to boost energy levels and also in the treatment of various diseases, including diabetes and ailments affecting the immune system, bones and liver.
