ULB employees announce stir on December 16

The Nagar Palika Karamchari Sangh, a body of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) employees, on Sunday announced that they would start an agitation against the state government for not accepting their demands.

The announcement was made at a state-level convention of the employees presided over by sangh president Naresh Kumar Shastri after discussing their issues in detail.

“The first phase of the campaign will be launched on December 16 by holding protest demonstrations and gate meetings at every district headquarters. The protest will also continue on December 17. Thereafter, residences of all ministers will be gheraoed on December 24 and a memorandum regarding the demands will be submitted,” said Shastri.

He said a hunger strike for 12 hours would be observed in all municipal committees, councils and corporations across the state for mounting pressure on the state government to accept their demands.

“Services of not a single sanitary worker and sewerman have been regularised by the state government in the past over a decade. Even regular recruitments have not been made. However, the BJP government had, on February 8, 2022, issued a letter to regularise the experienced contractual employees, but not a sanitary employee has so far got the benefit of the letter,” said Mange Ram Tigra, general secretary of the sangh.

He said the government should accept their demands and stop issuing false assurances.
