Two farmers held for burning paddy stubble
The Kurukshetra police have arrested two farmers, including a woman farmer, for burning paddy stubble. They were later released on bail.
As per the Kurukshetra police spokesman, Agriculture Deputy Director Dr Karam Chand had formed district-level committees for the monitoring and tracing farm fires. The committee found a farm fire at Lakhmari village of Babain following which a case was registered on October 22. Taking action, a woman farmer was arrested and later released on bail. Similarly, another farmer was arrested for burning paddy stubble in his fields at Ramnagar village. He was also released on bail later. Both the cases were registered at the Babain police station.
According to the data procured from the Agriculture Department, 130 active fire locations (AFLs) have been reported by the Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC) in the district till Sunday of which 72 were found on agricultural land. Besides this, another FIR was lodged after a non-HARSAC active fire location was observed.
The Agriculture Department had made complaints in all 73 cases and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.80 lakh on offenders. Of total fine, a fine of Rs 1.55 lakh has been collected and the department has also made 91 red entries in the land records of the offender farmers.
As per the information, of total AFLs, no fire was found at 34 locations, 20 were found in non-agricultural lands, and two were accidental burning.
