To improve its position in the upcoming Assembly elections, the BJP has begun focusing on booths where the party hasn’t performed well in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in Kurukshetra.

Experienced leaders to oversee booths

It has been decided that those senior party leaders who have either contested the elections in the past or have the experience of how the elections are contested will be deployed to oversee the working of the booths. On each 10 to 15 booths, one such leader will be appointed who will hold meetings with the ‘panna pramukhs’, interact with the people, social and religious groups and also create WhatsApp groups to share the party’s activities with the people. — Ravi Battan, BJP District Chief

In the district’s four Assembly segments, the BJP and AAP led in two each during the Lok Sabha elections. The BJP had won in Thanesar and Ladwa Assembly segments while AAP won in Shahabad and Pehowa.

As per the information, there are 810 booths in the district and the party has divided the booths into four categories on the basis of the outcome of previous elections. The party will focus on nearly 150 to 200 booths.

Speaking to The Tribune, BJP district chief Ravi Battan said, “We are focusing on the booths where the party didn’t win or register 50 per cent voting share. Efforts are being made to win all such booths. It has been decided that those senior party leaders who have either contested the elections in the past or have the experience of how the elections are contested will be deployed to oversee the working of the booths. On each 10 to 15 booths, one such leader will be appointed who will hold meetings with the ‘panna pramukhs’, interact with the people, social and religious groups and also create WhatsApp groups to share the party’s activities with the people.”

“Similarly, the ‘Yuva Morcha’ of that area will be activated and the party will gather information about the problems being faced at such booths and try to resolve these. The leaders will prepare a 10-point plan and work accordingly to win the booth. The party will also launch its membership drive and induct new people to strengthen the base,” he added.

Ravi Battan said, “All Assembly segments have different issues and caste dynamics. We are confident that the party will win all four Assembly segments in the upcoming elections.”

Meanwhile, State executive member of the BJP Dhuman Singh Kirmach said, “We are holding regular meetings with the party workers and leaders regarding the Assembly elections. A data of all booths is being compiled and some changes in the booth presidents and the ‘panna pramukhs’ are being made so that there is no laxity in the Assembly elections.”

“The party will focus on all booths where the party has done well in the past but lost in the previous elections and also identify the booths where the party has the potential of doing well. ,” he said.
