Three labourers suffocated to death in an underground water tank while attempting to remove shuttering at a construction site. The tank, which had been closed for the past eight months, was filled with stagnant water and reportedly filled with toxic gas, which led to the deaths.

According to police reports, the labourers were working at a construction site in Hans Enclave when they decided to open the shuttering of the tank. Recent rains had filled the tank with water, and the stagnant conditions had resulted in the build-up of poisonous gases. The police arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident. The bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem.

A police official said the incident took place when one labourer entered the tank and did not return. Concerned, the other two followed to check, only to also get incapacitated. Other workers at the site discovered them unconscious and immediately alerted the authorities. The deceased were identified as Mohammad Sagir, Rajkumar and Mohammad Samad.
