The Tribune impact: Finally, Karnal gets new Civil Surgeon
After a three-month gap, Karnal finally got a new Civil Surgeon to lead the district’s health services. The state government has ordered the appointment of Dr Lokveer, currently serving as the Principal Medical Officer in Ambala Cantt., as the new Civil Surgeon, Karnal, who will officially assume his new office in Karnal on Thursday.
Currently, the Civil Surgeon’s post has been temporarily assigned to the Civil Surgeon of Kaithal district, Dr Renu Chawla.
Confirming the order of the state government, Dr Chawla said Dr Lokveer would be the new Civil Surgeon of Karnal and he will join on Thursday.
The Tribune in its November 12 edition had highlighted the issue that key posts of Civil Surgeon and Principal Medical Officer were lying vacant, hampering the health services. Though the order for the deployment of Principal Medical Officer is yet to be issued, the order for a new Civil Surgeon, Karnal, has come as relief for the officials and people.
The post of the Civil Surgeon has been vacant since August 6, following the promotion of the former Civil Surgeon, Dr Krishan Kumar, to Director, Health. He is now an MLA from Bawal. Similarly, the Principal Medical Officer post has not been filled since the previous Principal Medical Officer retired on April 1.
