The terms of the Vice-Chancellor of Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma University of Health Sciences (UHS), Rohtak, as well as the PGIMS Director are going to be over by the end of November.

The state government has already advertised the vacancy for the post of the Director of PGIMS, indicating that the incumbent director was not likely to get an extension.

The Director, Dr SS Lohchab, has put in his papers, though he has not been relieved from the post as yet. The PGIMS Director did not respond to calls made on his mobile phone.

On the other hand, there is no clarity regarding the incumbent Vice-Chancellor getting an extension or the appointment of a new VC as no vacancy for the post has been advertised.

Nonetheless, the UHS VC, Prof (Dr) Anita Saxena, has asked the state government to relieve her as her term is going to be over. “I am going to complete my tenure and have requested the authorities concerned to relieve me. I will hand over the charge to the designated official after I get the directions from the government,” the VC told The Tribune.

Asked whether she was likely to get an extension or a new VC would be appointed, Prof Anita Saxena said she had no idea regarding that.

Meanwhile, hectic lobbying has begun with several senior faculty members making all-out efforts to seek the coveted posts of the UHS VC and PGIMS Director. Political as well as bureaucratic connections are being tapped by the aspirants from within the UHS/PGIMS as well as other medical institutes in the region.

Sources point out that usually, the PGIMS Director is selected from within the institute, while a professional from outside is appointed the UHS Vice-Chancellor.

“Certain faculty members are even trying to get the officiating/additional charge of the said posts so that their names are mentioned on the incumbency boards and they can add the prestigious designations to their profile,” quips a senior faculty member at the UHS.
