‘Sycophants chosen over sincere cadre’; women cell vice-prez quits
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana is witnessing a surge in resignations from party members following the release of the first list of candidates. In this series, women cell state vice-president Meena Chauhan broke down at a meeting of her supporters in Nissing and resigned from the post ahead of the upcoming Assembly election. She has left the decision about contesting elections on her supporters.
I have worked for the party with dedication for 20 years, but I was ignored every time. — Meena Chauhan, BJPleader
She was among the ticket aspirants from Nilokheri Assembly segment and dissatisfied over the ticket distribution to former MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi, who had lost the last Assembly elections from the same seat.
Alleging the party had favoured ‘sycophants’ over honest and dedicated workers, who have worked tirelessly for the party’s success over the years, she alleged that the party had overlooked loyalty and merit, and ignored her.
“I have worked for the party with dedication for the past 20 years, but I was ignored every time. The party has rewarded sycophants and ignored those who have always stood with the party. I was in the ticket race in 2014, 2019 and now in 2024, but I was not given preference, forcing me to finally resign from the party with a heavy heart,” said Chauhan, while talking with The Tribune.
Expressing disappointment, she said, “Women were ignored by the BJP in ticket distribution.” “I will reach out to my supporters and will take the final decision on contesting elections,” said Chuahan, who had served as a state women cell general secretary.
Earlier on Friday, former Mayor and senior BJP leader Renu Bala Gupta had expressed her disappointment over the ticket allocation to Jagmohan Anand from Karnal segment.
