For the second time in a decade, Panchkula will host a VVIP-studded swearing-in ceremony of the BJP Government in Haryana on October 17.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Ministers of the BJP-ruled states will be in attendance at the ceremony to be organised at the Dussehra ground, near Shalimar Mall, in Sector 5.

Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony was slated to be held on October 15, but PM Modi's availability on October 17 is stated to be reason behind date change.

The new date was ‘finalised’ after caretaker Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders in New Delhi last night.

Meanwhile, sources said the ceremony will be preceded by the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party next week in which Saini, the CM face of the saffron party in the 2024 Assembly polls, was expected to be chosen as the leader of the legislature party.

In 2014, the Dussehra Ground was the venue for swearing-in of Manohar Lal Khattar, then a first-time MLA, who became state’s first BJP Chief Minister after the party won a clear majority with 47 seats in the 90-member Assembly. Modi had also attended that ceremony.

In the aftermath of the October 5 Assembly polls, the BJP won 48 seats, becoming first party in Haryana’s electoral history to score a hat-trick.

Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad had already constituted a committee under the Panchkula Deputy Commissioner to make and oversee preparations for the function.
